MedSWIS Software Hott SheetSummer 1996 - Vol. 2Transitioning the MedSWIS Data Sheet to Measure Outcomes Transitioning the MedSWIS Data Sheet to Measure Outcomes Current health care trends place less emphasis on identifying ‘problems’ and more on ‘outcome measurement’. More specifically, "have you effected a positive outcome for the patient" while in your medical facility? MedSWIS user University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida tackled this problem by renaming two fields in MedSWIS to reflect an outcome focus, and to create a new field to track specific ways that workers effected patient outcomes. They renamed field no. 20 to "Outcome Screening Criteria", and listed four broad categories that reflected ‘barriers to a successful outcome’. These categories are:
They renamed field no. 24 to "Outcome Complications" and kept the same codes as in "Social Complications". This would appear to be a mere a title change, but has the effect of making this data much more useful, since the new field measures "social complications affecting a successful outcome". They renamed field no. 25 to "Micro Outcomes", which lists specific outcomes effected by workers during patients hospital stays. You could rename any field in MedSWIS with three data entries to collect this information if you wish. The codes for this important new addition are on the next page.SlideGuide Makes Interpretation Of SF-12 and SF-36 Scores Easy!
