About BOSS Software
BOSS has been the first choice among discharge planners and case managers
for the latest software technology to automate their functions since 1984. BOSS can collect day-to-
day staff activities, or you can choose to enter data upon patient discharge or case
closure. BOSS is completely automated and requires no computer knowledge to operate
even advanced options, such as user-defined reports!
BOSS is written in FOXPRO, is Year-2000 Certified, can run in WINDOWS (Windows 3.1,
Windows 95 or Windows NT), and is network compatible along with being multi-user software.
It is completely menu driven with nearly seventy automatically generated reports available
to the user at any time. Users specify the range of dates to run reports, whether they be
a pay period, a month, or a quarter. User-designed reports are simple, and user-designed
report parameters are saved for running any time you wish. MedGRAPH, our built-in graphics
program, automatically generates graphs from existing data!
BOSS allows the user to retrieve data from a patients earlier admission very
simply. When entering a new case, you will be prompted if this patient was discharged
within the past 30 days and/or, if the case is currently active in another department. The
BOSS feature SNAPSHOT allows easy concurrent Quality Assurance monitoring, which is
becoming essential to JCAHO accreditation. The built-in Chart Notes section allows users
to keep in the computer important phone numbers and other essential data so that filing
cabinets can be replaced. Tracking patient billing, and vouchers, is easy. Staff
productivity measurement is highly refined in BOSS, allowing staff workload and
department productivity measurement, based on case acuity, at the touch of a finger! We
even have a feature that allows you to "cost-out" the services you offer
patients. Our CQI Module is based upon the pioneering work of Dr. W. Edwards Deming, and
consists of three automatic quality control charts that have upper and lower control
limits calculated so that the busy manager can see where department problems are at a
glance. We also have included a cross indexed community resource file to easily generate
agency listings for patients being discharged.
BOSS comes preprogrammed with field names and subcategory codes, some of which are
compatible with the AHA national database. However, users have complete freedom in naming
data fields and creating subcategory codes. Users can design data input screens so only
the data they want is shown. BOSS is MOUSE compatible for added speed, and we have
worked hard to keep data input time to a minimum. Our Point and Shoot data entry makes it
simple for staff to enter their own data, and we even offer a scanner that 'reads'
handwriting!
BOSS has been in existence since 1984 and is truly a national software product with
users in over forty states. In the past, there has been a minimum of one upgrade per year,
with most users wishes and desires made part of these enhancements. We have made

Data Entry
Data entry can be performed manually by typing data by using our Point and
Shoot entry which allows staff to easily input data on their own, or using our
'Quick Entry' feature for minimal data entry. We also offer a scanner which
"reads" codes that staff write on our data collection tool. If performed
manually, secretaries can input approximately sixty cases per hour, so you can calculate
the approximate time needed for data input based upon historical case numbers in your
department. BOSS is mouse compatible, which can be an aid in data input, especially
with our Point and Shoot data entry.
You can easily customize data input screens so only the data fields you desire will
show up. Nomenclature and field subcategory codes are easy to change, so you have maximum
flexibility for the ever changing needs of your department!
