Download Technical Tips

The "built in" download function of BOSS™ can be accessed from the Administration Menu. This function enables users to import data from another source (such as the hospital's patient information system) into BOSS™. To take advantage of this feature in BOSS™, you will need to work with a computer specialist within your hospital to determine how the "download" file will be created and how the file will get to it's final destination-- the computer running BOSS™. Please refer to the instructions on accessing the download function. The following technical tips will be helpful to your computer person who will be creating your download file.

  • The download file name should end with the extension "txt".
  • The import program is designed to process a "batch of records on a periodic basis.
  • The import program must be initiated from the BOSS™ menu; BOSS™ operator attendance is required.
  • A comma should be appended to the last entry in any multiple occurrence fields in the download file. (Multiple occurrence fields are noted as such in the file layout specifications.)
  • There must be a record separator between each record; the download file cannot contain one long string of data.
  • When the import program is initiated, the BOSS™ operator will be asked if duplicates should be appended. Generally, this question should be answered "yes" so that all records in the download file will be appended to the BOSS™ database that have a "case number" or "social security number" that match a record in the download file will be replaced with the new record (from the download file).

Error Message: "Foxpro - An error has occurred in your program..." when entering BOSS™

  • This error message occurs when you have loaded BOSS™ onto a machine with a processor that operated at 350 megahertz or higher.
  • If you click on the "Ignore" button the system seems to work fine, but to fix this problem you will need to download a file called DZpatch from http://abri.com/foxpro.html or email our web site (bmiller@healthcareBOSS.com) and we will email you the file.

The cause of this problem is that your processor is TOO fast for Foxpro.  This 'bug' is due, apparently, to faulty compiling at Microsoft, but don't them we said it.   This file works automatically and has caused NO problems with hardware or software.

This is a third party patch, so the usual denials of responsibility are in effect if things go to hell.
